Houston, TX – According to the police officials, the 36-year-old woman, later identified as Heatther, was arrested and later charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury by omission after the 1-year-old child in her care died. Police officials said the boy, Jiryiah, was mauIed to death by the woman’s pets after the woman went to work and left the boy alone with her 13-year-old child. Police officials said the woman may face further charges for the injuries of her child, who also suffered injuries while trying to defend the toddIer from the viclious pets.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday at the woman’s home. The woman, who was suppose to take care of the 1-year-old child, left the child alone with her daughter while she went to work. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that shortly after the woman left, the woman’s three d0gs set upon the boy. The attack lasted several minutes after the dogs entered the bedroom and started mauIing the child. The woman’s daughter attempted to keep the boy safe, but was unable. She then locked herself in the bathroom only for the pitbuIIs to force their way in again and attack the child.
The 13-year-old girl then took her phone and called the authorities, while leaving the boy with the pitbuIIs. The teen then took the boy to another room and held the door with her body. First responders rushed the child to the hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries several hours later. The boy’s mom, Erica, told authorities that she left her son in the woman’s home and knew she had dogs, but didn’t knew they were ‘problematic’. The mother also said that Heatther promised that the pets would be secured.
Authorities released a statement, saying that officers responded to calls about the woman’s dogs in the past as well. On one instance, an individual reported that he couldn’t get out of his vehicle because the pitbuIIs won’t let him. It remains unclear for how long the woman was away from her home and where she went while leaving her child in charge of the toddIer. The woman even refused to give statement to authorities. She is being held on $100,000 bond.
