Kansas City, MO – The 35-year-old Missouri man, E. WiIIiams, will spend the next four decades behind bars for the shooting death of 22-year-old ShayIa. According to the court documents, the defendant was sentenced after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action earlier this year. According to the defendant, he killed the pregnant woman and her unborn child, because ‘his own mental health issues and iIIegal drug use caused him to snap’.
The fatal shooting occurred in December 2022. Officers responded to the location following shots fired call. The responding officers realized that the young woman suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the defendant, the victim and two witnesses were sitting in a room upstairs, local news outlet KCTV5 reported.
Shortly after, the victim went downstairs to lie on the sofa. Minutes later, the defendant also went downstairs only for the witnesses to hear a gunshot and then realize that the woman was shot. When the witness looked outside, they reportedly realized that someone was running outside the home.
According to the police officials, the defendant and the victim never had an argument that night. Authorities took the defendant into custody after he turned himself in several hours after the shooting. During an interview with investigators, the defendant reportedly said that he knew the pregnant woman and they had seen each other occasionally.
According to the defendant, the young mother was ‘constantly irritating’ who reportedly used female terms for his ‘private parts’. The defendant also told investigators that he usually doesn’t get offended by the woman’s words, but he recently lost several family members and that felt really hard on him. The defendant even mentioned that his mental health problems and the ongoing drug use caused him to lose it.
The defendant even described how it happened, saying that he went downstairs while the woman was on the sofa. The defendant then pulled out his gun and fired a single shot to her head, killing her. He then ran away only to fall down a hill, where he lost his gun and backpack. The defendant took authorities to the location, where officers found the gun used in the killing.
