New Mexico – A New Mexico man was arrested last week and charged with multiple charges, including: murder, armed robbery and tampering with evidence after fataIIy shooting 52-year-old rldeshare driver J. Andres. According to a criminal complaint, the defendant, 18-year-old SheIiky, had his girIfriend order the ride for him around 1 a.m. that morning.
During the trip, the defendant allegedly instructed the victim to pull over before shooting him multiple times and steaIing his vehicle. The vehicle was later found at the defendant’s girIfriend’s home, where he was apprehended by police.
Initially, the young man denied any involvement in the incident, claiming he had purchased the vehicle with cash and had not used a rid eshare. However, under further questioning, he reportedly confessed that the murder was premeditated and driven by a desire to let off some stteam after a stressfuI day. The defnedant stated that he chose his victim randomly from multiple apps and felt a brief sense of guilt but ultimately described the act as a relief, likening it to taking an in and out breath.
The investigation began when the victim’s body was discovered early on August 7, 2025. Police utilized the ride request to trace the defendant’s girIfriend and subsequently located him at a residence in New Mexico. Upon arrest, the 18-year-old man was booked into the county metropolitan detention center. He made his first court appearance on August 9, 2025, where he was formally charged and remains in custody without bond.
The local police department has stated that the investigation is ongoing. New Mexico authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue to gather details related to the case.
