Indianapolis, IN – Indiana mom, later identified as 25-year-old KatIyn, and her partner, 23-year-old Mavrick, were taken into custody and later charged with negIect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury after the woman’s child suffered severe injuries, including brain bIeed and skull fractures. According to the statement, child protective services reportedly discovered that the child’s injuries were intentionally inflicted and the boy will most likely not be the same if he survives the severe injuries inflicted by his mom and her partner.
The investigation process began last month after the 911 caller told the dispatcher about an unresponsive child. First responders rushed the 2-year-old boy to the hospital and discovered that the child was covered with bruises. Hospital staff later discovered that the child suffered sever injuries, including skull fractures, brain bleed, burns marks and had a cut on his ‘prlvate part’. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the 23-year-old man was babysitting the child while his mom was at work.
During an interview with investigators, the man reportedly said that the boy fell down and hit his head. The man also told investigators that the boy is clumsy, explaining this when asked about the child’s bruises. The child’s mom told investigators that the boy’s burn marks were from wearing big boots. Authorities believe the mom’s partner abused her child and the woman is lying in order to protect him, L&C reported. The man’s daughter, who was not identified due to her age, reportedly said that her father injured her and beats her with a stick. During an interview with investigators, the child’s mom told investigators that her boyfriend has anger issues.
According to the police officials, investigation by child protective services concluded that the child’s injuries were likely the result of intentional harm. The investigator noted that, given the lack of a reasonable explanation for the injuries and the nature of the findings, the case is highly suspicious of non-accidental trauma. Both defendants were arrested last week and both remain in jail on a $100,000 bond.
