Detroit, MI – Michigan man was ordered to spend at least two decades behind bars after pleading no contest to multiple charges, including second-degree murder and second-degree child abuse, earlier this year. The defendant, 26-year-old Jonathan, must serve 24 years to five decades behind bars in connection with his child’s death last year. Prosecutors say the 2-year-old child was starrved to death by the defendant and his partner, who is also the victim’s mom.
According to the court documents, the victim’s mom, 28-year-old Siera, was also charged in connection with her child’s death and her trial is set to begin next year. The investigation process began in March last year after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that they found their child dead in his bed. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the victim’s cause of death was fatal starrvation.
During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the 2-year-old child, who was the biological son of both defendants, was a normal child with good health before being placed back in their custody. It remains clear why the child was removed from their care or when the boy was returned to the biological parents.
According to the court documents, the mother found her child dead in his crib. The father, who was visiting at his mother’s home when the child was found dead, returned to his home. The medical examiner determined the cause of death was fatal starvation, according to the Prosecutor’s Office. “When parents betray the sacred trust to nurture and protect, we must ensure that the scales of justice tip in favor of accountability,” said Prosecutor Peter reportedly said.
