Indianapolis, IN – Indiana parent is behind bars after authorities charged the 26-year-old woman with child neglect after the woman’s friend rushed her baby to the hospital severely maInourished, dehydrated and strved. Authorities released a statement, saying that if it weren’t for the mother’s friend bringing her baby to the hospital, the 2-month-old would not have survived. Prosecutors claim the woman nearly let her baby starve to death following her arrest last week.

The investigation process began after the mother’s friend, who was not identified, went to the parent’s home only to realize that the baby was starving. The child, who was severely malnourished and dehydrated, was brought to the hospital by the concerned friend. According to the police officials, the concerned friend rushed the child to the hospital while the parent rested at home following a work shift. The mother reportedly explained that a friend took the victim to the hospital while she stayed home to rest after working at her part-time job. They say she told them that she didn’t take the victim to the hospital because she had numerous things going on in her personal life and at work, WEVV reported.

Hospital staff discovered that the child, who was severely maInourished and starved, weighed less than he weighed at birth. The baby’s face was sunken-in and almost didn’t had any fat on his little body. All the skin was hanging from the bone, the hospital staff told investigators. Shortly after the child was brought to the hospital by the concerned friend, authorities launched their investigation. The mother told investigators that she didn’t take the victim to the hospital because she had numerous things going on in her personal life and at work.

During an interview with investigators, the baby’s mom reportedly said that she was feeding her son 1 oz of formula several times every day. The mother also claimed that the baby was thr0wing up much of it. The woman also mentioned that she was overwhelmed with work and other things going on in her personal life. The mother also said that she waited for a scheduled appointment with the child’s physician to address the eating and weight issues but never took the victim to a follow-up appointment that was scheduled despite his condition not improving. She also admitted she never took the victim to the ER for treatment at any point as his condition continued to worsen

The hospital staff told investigators that the baby didn’t had any problems with digesting the food and gained 3 lbs in just few days after being admitted to the hospital. The baby was fully capable of consuming food, the hospital staff told investigators. The parent, who was formally charged last week, confessed ‘that she should’ve done things differently and knew her baby would have died if her friend didn’t rushed her to the hospital. The young mom is being held on $25,000 bond, court records say.
