Texas – Texas mom was taken into custody and later charged with multiple charges, including including endangering a child and injuring a child after her child underwent many unnecessary medical procedures, received 44 different diagnoses and was prescribed 19 different medications. According to Texas authorities, the 40-year-old woman, Denize, reportedly provided false medical histories to doctors and claimed her daughter had non-existent symptoms, including headaches, stomach pains, seizures, and nausea, for the last 6 years.
The 40-year-old Texas woman was taken into custody last week after she was caught on video using a syringe to insert a clear liquid into her child’s feeding bag. The parent then put the feeding bag down and poured some of the contents into a cup before telling hospital staff that her child vomlted.
During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the 40-year-old parent lied to doctors and hospital staff for years about her child’s health. Authorities in Texas now claim the mother put her child through several unnecessary and potentially harmful procedures for health issues she never had.
According to the police officials, the mother reportedly claim that the child suffers from a Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, which is a medical condition that causes tumors to grow in different organs. The 4o-year-old mother also told hospital staff that the 15-year-old girl needs a wheelchair, is deaf and nonverbal.
During the investigation process, authorities determined that the child visited the emergency room nearly 10 times, stayed at the hospital dozen times, was prescribed 20 different medications and received more than 40 different diagnoses. The woman also attempted to fake her own diagnosis, claiming she has cancer in order to gain money from donations. According to the police officials, the woman may have committed Medicaid fraud in the amount of $500,00 to $1 million.
The victim’s doctor told investigators that the mother controlled all communication between medical staff and her daughter. According to the affidavits, the woman said the victim was deaf and didn’t understand sign language. Every time the victim was asked a question, she would look to her mother to answer, authorities said.
When the defendant was separated from her daughter for a time, medical personnel discovered that the teen was able to communicate proficiently in sign language. She was also able to have some verbal communication. She began to eat solid food without any problems during the separation from her mother, and could walk on her own without the use of the wheelchair, the court documents state. She indicated she wasn’t in any pain and did not need the pain medications she had been given.
