Columbus, OH – According to the court documents, the 45-year-old mom, later identified as LaQandra, was sentenced to life in prison (with the possibility of parole after 18 years) after pleading guilty to murder and assault in connection with her child’s death earlier this year. Prosecutors claim the woman shot and killed her son, later identified as 21-year-old Jahad, in February following an altercation.
The investigation process began in February after the woman’s neighbors called 911 and told the dispatcher that someone fired shots outside their residence. The responding officers found the victim, suffering from a single gunshot wound. The man was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead several hours later.
During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the victim was shot in the back by his own mom. The woman was also at the scene, where she approached the responding officers and reportedly told them that she shot the man. Before shooting her son to death, the mother reportedly attempted to stab her son. During an interview with investigators, witnesses reportedly said that they prevented the mother from stabbing her son.
The woman then told her son ‘I’m going to show you something’ before she went to her car and grabbed a gun. The witnesses locked the house only for the victim to pack his bags and open the door after several minutes. His mom then got out of her vehicle and shot him. The victim’s sister told authorities that their mom was ‘dealing with a mental illness’ at the time of the incident.
