Indianapolis, IN – According to the court documents, the 32-year-old parent, later identified as Betany, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including: neglect of a dependent. Prosecutors say that if the judge accepts the plea deal, the mom would have a 12-year sentence with seven years suspended. The mother was initially charged with attempted murder, but prosecutors later agreed to lesser charge of neglect of a dependent and being mentally ill.

This unfortunate incident occurred in October last year. According to the court documents, the responding officers found both the mother and her 10-year-old child suffering from life-threatening injuries and rushed them to the hospital. Luckily, both survived. During the investigation process, authorities reportedly discovered that the mother struck her child in the head with a hammer.

The child, who was not identified due to his age, suffered severe injuries. He reportedly had a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain, and his life was saved after undergoing emergency surgery. After hitting her son in the head and leaving him seriously injured, the mother stabbed herself. After the parent was released from hospital, she was taken into custody and charged.

During an interview with investigators, the mother reportedly said that she hit her son and tried to take her own life because she ‘believed that someone was coming to take them both into se* slavery. The 32-year-old woman will be sentenced next month, court records say. After serving her time, the mother would then be placed on three years of active adult probation and she must submit to psychological evaluation.
