South Carolina – A South Carolina mother  was taken into custody earlier this week and charged with homicide by child abuse following the death of her newborn baby. The incident occurred on March 7 in the woman’s apartment. The 31-year-old woman confessed to killing her baby and displayed extreme indifference to human life, according to the warrant.

The document did not provide a motive for the alleged attack on the baby. She was arrested and charged with homicide by child abuse. If convicted, she faces a sentence ranging from 20 years to life in prison.

Emergency responders were called to the defendant’s residence that evening due to reports of a woman in medical distress. Upon arrival, they discovered the mother, later identified as 31-year-old Anh, who had recently given birth, and her newborn son, who was found deceased with severe injuries.

Investigators later determined that the 31-year-old woman had allegedly used a metaI Ietter opener to repeatedly stab the infant shortly after birth. She is then accused of placing the baby’s body in a trash bag, which was moved to another room within the apartment.

Police Chief Linner expressed profound shock over the brutality of the incident, stating, “I will be honest with you: I’ve been doing this for two and a half decades, and I’ve never seen anything this gruesome.”

Following the incident, the mother was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. She was released on March 10 and promptly arrested. At her arraignment on March 11, a judge denied bail due to the severity of the charges. The defendant is currently being held in custody, with her next court appearance scheduled for May 15, 2025.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has joined the investigation, assisting the local police department in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death. The Department of Social Services is also providing support.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident. No further details have been released at this time.
