Texas – According to the police officials, the 18-year-old woman who was in the country iIIegaIIy, EveriIda, was arrested and later charged with abandoning a child without the intent to return after she reportedly gave birth to her baby behind a food truck before tying the baby, pIacenta, and umbiIical cord into a trash bag before placing it inside a nearby dumpster. The mother then left and left her newborn baby behind.
The woman, who was later identified as an iIIegal imigrant from GuatemaIa, but lives in Houston, was arrested and taken into custody after the entire incident was caught on surveillance video. After authorities took the woman into custody, she reportedly admitted to leaving the baby in the dumspter so her boyfriend wouldn’t break up with her.
The young woman reportedly said that ‘she had no choice or else her boyfriend would ‘break up with her’. The woman was taken into custody last week and her bail was set at $200,000. The investigation process began after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that they heard baby crying for help and called help to recover the child. The baby was rushed to the hospital and authorities say he is in stable and good condition.
According to reports, the case highlights the importance of Texas’s Safe Haven Law, which allows parents who are unable to care for their baby to surrender the child at designated safe locations such as hospitals, fire stations, or freestanding emergency centers without facing legal repercussions. The baby must be younger than 60 days old and unharmed.
