Shreveport, LA – A 17-year-old student from Captain Shreve High School was arrested on Monday for battery against a dating partner, according to Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, Sr.
The incident came to light earlier in the day when the victim and her mother arrived at the school to report the assault. According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, the victim had recently ended a three-month relationship with the suspect, identified as Gavin Hamilton.
Deputy Rivera, the school’s assigned resource officer, was notified of the report and immediately began investigating. The victim told authorities that on April 1, as she exited the school bus, Hamilton approached her and began punching her without provocation.
After locating Hamilton on campus, Deputy Rivera advised him of his Miranda rights and conducted an interview. During questioning, Hamilton admitted to striking the victim.
He was arrested at the school and transported to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on a charge of battery against a dating partner. No further details about the victim’s injuries were released.
The investigation remains ongoing, and school officials have not commented on whether disciplinary action will be taken in addition to the criminal charges.
