The Caddo Parish Commission amended and reenacted parish wide spay/neuter legislation designed to reduce the number of intakes and euthanasia of animals

Shreveport, LA – According to the officials, the Caddo Parish Commission has passed new legislation focused on enhancing public safety and ensuring a living wage for employees of the Parish of Caddo organization during their regular session on August 8.

Among the measures enacted was an amendment to the parish-wide spay/neuter ordinance, aimed at reducing the number of animals taken in by Caddo Parish Animal Services and decreasing euthanasia rates.

Originally adopted in 2022, the ordinance requires most dogs and cats within Caddo Parish to be spayed or neutered, with certain exemptions.

The recent amendments strengthen these requirements, now mandating that all dogs and cats in unincorporated areas of Caddo Parish must be spayed or neutered by the time they are 26 weeks old (approximately 6 months).

The Commission’s actions reflect ongoing efforts to manage the local animal population humanely while also addressing broader concerns related to public safety and employee welfare within the parish.
