Shreveport, LA – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has closed Routen Camp Road at the Richard K. Yancey Wildlife Management Area (WMA) due to flooding.
Once the water recedes, LDWF will inspect, repair, and reopen the road. Richard K. Yancey WMA is located approximately 35 miles south of Ferriday on Louisiana Highway 15 in lower Concordia Parish.
Available game species include deer, squirrel, rabbit, waterfowl, woodcock, dove, and snipe. There is a small game emphasis area, a youth deer season, and a youth deer lottery hunt. Annual spring flooding from the Red and Mississippi rivers produces excellent recreational fishing. Common recreational species include bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish.
All visitors to Richard K. Yancey WMA and all LDWF WMAs must have either a WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman’s Paradise License, or Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License.
