Shreveport, LA – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), in collaboration with the Claiborne Parish Watershed District Commission (CPWDC), will host a “Reef Rodeo” at Lake Claiborne in Claiborne Parish on Saturday, January 11, 2025. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the public boat launch on LA Hwy 2 near Homer, Louisiana.

More than 300 unused Christmas trees, donated by local vendors and collected by LDWF, will be available for anglers to use as fish attractors.

Participants can select trees to place in their preferred fishing spots. Weights for sinking the trees will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, though participants are encouraged to bring their own weights, such as concrete cinder blocks.

Any trees not distributed during the event will be deployed by LDWF to enhance public fishing piers and existing artificial reefs in the lake.

This initiative aims to improve fish habitats and promote recreational fishing opportunities at Lake Claiborne.
