Louisiana – Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces upcoming closure of I-49 northbound at I-10 for overpass repairs beginning Feb. 7, with work expected to continue through March 2025

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced the upcoming closure of Interstate 49 as crews work to repair the Interstate 10 eastbound overpass at I-49.

Damage to the exterior girder on the eastbound bridge deck occurred in December 2024, leading to necessary repairs.

Beginning Friday, Feb. 7, at 9:00 p.m. until Monday, Feb. 10, at 5:00 a.m., I-49 northbound at its intersection with I-10 will be closed to all traffic, weather permitting.

Initial work will involve removing the damaged girder from the I-10 overpass structure using a crane and installing a new girder. The new bridge deck will then be fabricated in place in the following weeks. Additional lane and road closures will be announced as needed.

All lanes of I-10 eastbound will remain open during the work.

Closures:
– I-10 eastbound overpass auxiliary lane (deceleration/acceleration lane)
– I-49 northbound exit ramp from I-10 (Exit 103B)
– Exit 1A to access I-10 eastbound
– Emergency vehicles will not have access to this section of I-49 northbound.

Detour:
Motorists traveling on I-49 northbound should take Exit 1A (Baton Rouge), continue eastbound on I-10 to Exit 104 (Louisiana Ave), turn left on Louisiana Avenue, then take I-10 westbound to Exit 103B (I-49/US 167 – Opelousas).

The project is estimated to be completed in March 2025, weather permitting.

The emergency contractors for this project are Lafayette-based Huval & Associates, Inc. (design) and C.E.C., Inc. (construction).
