Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Police Department addressed misinformation surrounding an assault case that escalated to a homicide investigation.
On January 26, 2025, officers responded to an assault at 400 Commerce Street, where they found an unconscious man with severe head and facial injuries.
The suspect was arrested for second-degree battery but was not charged with murder or manslaughter, contrary to circulating reports.
The victim succumbed to his injuries on February 15, 2025, prompting the case’s elevation to a homicide investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed multiple altercations between the suspect and the victim after leaving the Sand Bar on Spring Street, with the final assault occurring on Commerce Street.
The Shreveport Police Department is working with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office to ensure a fair and impartial legal process. The other individual involved was not arrested because he is deceased. Officials urged the public to rely on verified information to avoid unnecessary division.
