SPD urges local community to avoid walking on interstates after woman critically injured on I-20

Shreveport, LA – According to the police officials, a woman sustained critical injuries after being struck by the side mirror of a passing vehicle while walking on I-20 westbound near Hearne Avenue, according to the Shreveport Police Department.

The incident occurred on March 7, leaving the woman in serious condition as she fights for her life.

Authorities emphasized that interstates are not designed for pedestrian traffic, and walking on them—even on the shoulder—is both illegal and highly dangerous.

Officials noted that despite being hit only by a mirror, the impact caused severe injuries, underscoring the risks of walking on highways.

They urged the public to avoid walking on interstates to prevent further tragedies.
