Shreveport, LA – A man was arrested earlier this month after Shreveport Police discovered him inside a stolen vehicle that was also carrying a large amount of stolen goods and narcotics.
On April 2, 2025, patrol officers with the Shreveport Police Department located a stolen 2006 silver Dodge Ram 3500 parked at a business in the 5700 block of Youree Drive. The truck, which had been reported stolen out of Caddo Parish, was occupied at the time by 34-year-old Taylor Rust.
After confirming the vehicle’s stolen status, officers took Rust into custody and charged him with illegal possession of stolen things, along with multiple drug-related offenses. During an initial inspection of the vehicle’s interior, police observed a variety of items that appeared to be stolen, prompting the involvement of the SPD Property Crimes Unit.
Investigators quickly determined that many of the items inside the vehicle matched property reported stolen in a recent burglary case under investigation by the Haughton Police Department.
According to Haughton authorities, Rust was already identified as the primary suspect in that case. The items taken during the burglary included lawn equipment, tools, various containers, a firearm, and roughly 600 rounds of ammunition.
On April 4, SPD detectives recovered nearly all of the stolen property from the truck Rust had been occupying at the time of his arrest. In addition to the previous charges, he was booked for two additional counts of illegal possession of stolen things and one count of illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Police confirmed that the recovered pistol has since been removed from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
Rust remains under investigation by multiple agencies. The Haughton Police Department has applied for a warrant and is expected to file further charges in connection with their ongoing case.
Authorities noted that cooperation between jurisdictions allowed for a swift recovery of property and evidence.
