Shreveport, LA – Shreveport Police arrested two men on April 13 for allegedly attempting to steal copper from utility poles in broad daylight.
Officers responded to a call in the 200 block of East 70th Street and discovered Paul Dupuy and Adam Anglin at the scene.
Both men were found wearing gloves, ropes, and other items that gave the impression they were workers, although they were not authorized to be there.
The suspects were caught cutting copper wire from utility poles. When questioned, they claimed to be working for a contractor but could not provide any details, such as the contractor’s name or contact information.
Upon further investigation, police discovered over 100 feet of copper wire valued at more than $1,000, along with wire-cutting tools, gloves, ropes, and drug paraphernalia inside their vehicle.
The theft caused a temporary disruption to AT&T services in the area, leaving customers unable to make calls or access the internet. Authorities seized the copper, the vehicle, and other evidence related to the crime. Both suspects were booked into the city jail.
This incident serves as a reminder to the public to report suspicious activity around utility poles. Shreveport Police encourage residents to contact them at 318-673-7300 or Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373 if they observe any unusual behavior.
