Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Baton Rouge man in Livingston Parish on Friday afternoon.
According to authorities, on April 25, 2025, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 12, just west of the LA Highway 441 exit. The crash resulted in the death of 70-year-old Steven Lockwood.
Preliminary findings indicate that Lockwood was driving a 2021 Ford Transit van westbound on Interstate 12. At the same time, a 2020 Kenworth tractor trailer was also traveling westbound and had slowed to a stop due to traffic congestion. For reasons still under investigation, Lockwood’s vehicle struck the rear of the Kenworth.
Lockwood, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer, who was also properly restrained, suffered minor injuries.
As part of standard procedure, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis as the investigation continues.
In a public statement, Louisiana State Police reminded motorists of the importance of safe driving practices. Officials emphasized avoiding impaired, fatigued, or distracted driving, ensuring all occupants are properly restrained, and observing all traffic laws. They noted that while not all crashes are survivable, taking these basic safety measures can often be the difference between life and death.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
