Shootout in west Shreveport leaves two injured, one arrested for attempted murder

Shreveport, LA – Early Tuesday morning, Shreveport Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of West 77th Street that left two men seriously injured.

Investigators determined that 31-year-old William Mayfield arrived at a residence around 6 a.m. and opened fire.

The resident, who was not identified, returned fire, striking Mayfield in the leg. Mayfield also shot the victim in the abdomen during the exchange.

After a brief investigation, Mayfield was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police noted that Mayfield has a prior conviction from 2022 for domestic abuse battery by strangulation.

Both men sustained serious injuries but are expected to recover. Authorities emphasized that the incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in initiating violent confrontations.
