Shreveport, LA – Shreveport police announced that detectives have added charges of simple burglary and theft against a suspect already in custody following an ongoing investigation.

Anthony Smith Jr., 27, was linked to a residential burglary on the 3900 block of Liaison Drive through video surveillance and by tracing stolen property he sold to a local pawn shop.

Smith was initially arrested on September 4 after members of the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Abatement Team (VCAT), in partnership with Caddo Parish Juvenile Services and the Office of Juvenile Justice, acted on information that he was armed and making threats of violence.

Officers located Smith at 2700 Judson Street that morning. When he spotted law enforcement, he attempted to flee through a bedroom window but was apprehended after a short pursuit.

During the investigation, officers recovered a firearm and a stolen vehicle hidden under a tarp in the residence’s garage. Shell casings were also collected as evidence.

Smith now faces multiple charges, including simple burglary, theft, fugitive through probation and parole, possession of stolen property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has prior convictions for burglary and narcotics offenses.
