Louisiana DOTD announces winners of annual aviation awards

Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced the recipients of the Louisiana Airport of the Year, David Slayter Memorial Aviation Professional of the Year, and Allen Taylor Legacy awards during the 2025 Louisiana Airport Managers and Associates Annual Conference on October 7 in Lake Charles.

The award winners include:

  • Louisiana Airport of the Year – General Aviation: Chennault International Airport, Lake Charles

  • David Slayter Memorial Louisiana Aviation Professional of the Year: Maurice Songy, Acadiana Regional Airport/LeMaire Memorial Airport

  • Allen R. Taylor Legacy Award: Scott Gammel, Alexandria International Airport

DOTD Secretary Glenn Ledet, Jr., congratulated the winners, noting the importance of air travel as a critical component of the state’s transportation infrastructure. Deputy Secretary Julia Fisher-Cormier also praised the recipients for their excellence and professionalism in aviation.

The awards recognize superior achievement and leadership in Louisiana’s aviation field, honoring airports and professionals who have made significant contributions through safety improvements, construction, development, or effective management of aviation resources.
