
Shreveport, LA – The Shreveport Fire Department recently completed an intensive 80-hour hazardous materials technician course aimed at strengthening firefighter preparedness for complex emergency situations.
According to the department, the nationally recognized course was delivered by the International Association of Fire Fighters and supported by the Shreveport Firefighters Association, Local 514.
The program is Pro Board accredited and focused on providing firefighters with advanced knowledge and hands-on skills for identifying, mitigating, and managing hazardous materials incidents.
The training included practical exercises covering risk assessment, monitoring and detection, decontamination procedures, and scenario-based responses designed to reflect real-world emergencies. Department officials said the course was intended to enhance operational readiness and safety for both firefighters and the public.
Fire Chief Clarence Reese Jr. highlighted the importance of continued professional development within the department, noting that ongoing training plays a critical role in ensuring effective and reliable emergency response for the community.
Department leaders said the completion of the course reflects a continued investment in firefighter training and acknowledged the role of the IAFF and Local 514 in supporting advanced education opportunities for personnel.
