Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is advising motorists of a lane closure on Interstate 49 northbound in Rapides Parish following a crash involving an 18-wheeler.

According to DOTD, the inside left lane of I-49 northbound, approximately one mile north of Exit 61 at Meeker and Turkey Creek, has been closed after an 18-wheeler struck a bridge piling. Officials said the closure is necessary to ensure safety while inspections and repairs are planned.

The lane is expected to remain closed for several weeks. DOTD said a more specific timeline will be provided once a full bridge inspection is completed and a repair plan is finalized.

Oversized loads are required to detour using U.S. 71, while all other vehicles may continue traveling through the area without a designated detour. DOTD noted that drivers should expect potential delays.

Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the area, remain alert for work crews and equipment, and allow additional following distance between vehicles. DOTD also advised area residents to exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near the active work zone.
