Shreveport, LA -Officers with the Shreveport Police Department responded to reports of gunfire early Sunday morning and encountered two groups actively exchanging gunfire in downtown Shreveport, according to officials.

Police said the incident happened at approximately 3 a.m. in the 100 block of Commerce Street. As officers moved through the crowd, they observed individuals shooting at one another.

During the confrontation, four officers discharged their firearms, causing the suspects to flee the area, authorities said. Four individuals were later taken into custody, and multiple firearms were recovered from the scene.

One person sustained non-life-threatening gunshot injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Another individual was hospitalized for an injury unrelated to gunfire.

Officials said Louisiana State Police was contacted immediately and will lead the officer-involved portion of the investigation.

As part of standard procedure, the four officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Police stated there is currently no indication the officers acted outside department policy.

No officers were injured during the incident.
