Louisiana – Louisiana State Police have arrested 30-year-old Brandon Chenevert of Denham Springs in connection with a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of 20-year-old Jody Mann of Greenwell Springs. The arrest follows weeks of investigation and the receipt of anonymous tips from the public.
The incident occurred on March 29, 2025, shortly before 9:00 p.m., when Mann was struck by a vehicle while walking along LA 1023, south of LA 63. The vehicle fled the scene, leaving Mann with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a hospital but died from her injuries on April 14.
Troopers initially identified the suspect vehicle as possibly being a Toyota. On April 1, they received two anonymous tips that identified Chenevert as the suspected driver. A subsequent search warrant led investigators to his property, where they located a vehicle matching the description and damaged parts consistent with the crash.
During the search, authorities also discovered narcotics and firearms on the premises. Chenevert was taken into custody and originally charged with felony hit and run, negligent injuring, obstruction of justice, failure to seek assistance, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs, possession of Schedule III drugs, and possession of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substances.
After Mann’s passing, troopers obtained an arrest warrant through the 21st Judicial District Court for negligent homicide. Chenevert was rebooked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on April 21, 2025.
The case remains under investigation.
The Louisiana State Police expressed their appreciation for the public’s role in the arrest, noting that the anonymous tips were instrumental in identifying the suspect. Officials emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving crimes and ensuring public safety.
