Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents rescue stranded hunters during winter storm

by Erica Knowles

Louisiana – Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents successfully rescued four hunters stranded in the Atchafalaya Delta Wildlife Management Area (WMA) during the winter storm on January 21.

Agents were alerted at 9:40 a.m. about the hunters, who had gone duck hunting earlier in the morning. Their vessel began taking on water during their return, forcing them to beach it on the WMA and call for assistance.

By 11 a.m., agents reached the hunters by boat and transported them safely back to their vehicles. The hunters did not require medical attention.

Authorities remind the public to avoid traveling and accessing WMAs during hazardous winter storm conditions.

Sgt. Jeremy Foret and Agent Savannah Lavergne led the successful rescue operation.
