Jacksonville, FL – The 27-year-old Florida man is behind bars and he is later charged with using a firearm while under the infIuence after he reportedly seriously injured his wife by shooting her in the neck while handling a gun. Authorities say the defendant reportedly admitted to using iIIegal drugs after returning home only to then intentionally handle a weapon which he discharged and struck his partner in the neck. Luckily, the woman, who was not identified by authorities, survived the incident. Doctors told investigators that the victim could be paralized from the neck down due to the injury.
According to the police officials, this unfortunate incident occurred right before 2 a.m. early Monday morning. Authorities in Florida responded to the location after the shooter called 911 and told the dispatcher that his wife had been shot. First responders realized that the defendant was holding a towel on the wound and told him to move so they could help the victim.
The responding officers stated that the defendant was hesitant at first, but later allowed the personnel to help. The woman, who was not identified, reportedly told the responding officers that the shooting was an accident and her husband didn’t mean to do it. The woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is expected to survive the incident.
During an interview with investigators, the defendant reportedly said that they were looking for their pet all day and when they returned home, they reportedly used iIIegal drugs (cocalne). The man claimed that he ‘went to put away his gun when it went off’. The defendant then told authorities that he doesn’t remember much and refused to talk with investigators about the shooting.
The responding officers stated that they found open alcohol bottles and white powder on the table in living room. According to the police officials, the 27-year-old man ‘physically and intentionally handled the gun while under the influence of cocalne. The man then discharged the firearm, which struck his partner.
