Shooting on Illinois Street sends two to hospital with serious injuries, police say

Shreveport, LA – Per reports, officers responded to a reported fight at 4305 Illinois Street early Sunday morning.

While on the scene, officers heard multiple gunshots, prompting swift action.

Two gunshot victims were transported by private vehicles to local hospitals for treatment.

The male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover, while the female victim remains in critical condition.

SPD patrol officers detained a suspect at the scene, identified as 19-year-old Tyshaun Brown, who was attempting to tamper with evidence. Brown was subsequently arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.

During the ongoing investigation, K-9 officers observed another suspect fleeing the scene in a vehicle. When the suspect refused to comply with officers’ commands, a short vehicle pursuit ensued, leading the suspect to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot. K-9 “Edy” apprehended the suspect, 42-year-old Billy Nelson, who was then charged with illegal use of a firearm and aggravated flight. SPD Violent Crimes Detectives later connected Nelson to the shooting.

The investigation remains active, with SPD Violent Crimes Detectives leading the case. The female victim remains in serious condition. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Shreveport Police Department.

SPD commended the efforts of their officers, detectives, and especially K-9 “Edy” for their instrumental role in the case.
