Shreveport, LA – According to the police officials, Guus, pronounced “Juice,” had been a beloved member of the department since joining in February 2015 after completing training in Holland, where he excelled in KMPV events.

Born on September 6, 2010, Guus quickly established himself as one of the department’s highest-scoring canines.

Throughout his career, Guus earned recognition for his accomplishments and bravery.

His most notable act of service occurred on the night of November 8, 2019, when he played a critical role in apprehending Dwayne Watkins, a suspect fleeing the scene after the tragic murders of Heather and Kelly Jose. Guus’ bravery that night helped bring Watkins to justice.

After years of dedicated service, Guus retired from the Shreveport Police Department in 2021. He spent his retirement years living with his former handler and their family, enjoying a peaceful life in a loving home.

Guus will be remembered for his unwavering commitment, loyalty, and affectionate nature, leaving an indelible mark on the department and community he served.
