Shreveport, LA – According to the LaDOTD officials, the crosswalk, which serves as a pedestrian refuge island, is located in the 4600 block of LA 1 (N. Market Street), approximately five miles north of downtown Shreveport.
Starting Tuesday, September 24, 2024, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures on N. Market Street in both directions near the intersection with N. Lakewood Drive.
This will allow DOTD crews to begin the removal of the crosswalk components and repair and restripe the roadway. The removal process is expected to take about three weeks, weather permitting.
This action follows HCR 68 from the 2023 Regular Legislative Session, which prompted DOTD to reassess the crosswalk’s location due to safety concerns.
The crosswalk has been involved in incidents where vehicles left their lanes and collided with the facility or nearby homes.
After conducting necessary pedestrian studies, DOTD determined that the crosswalk facility, which includes signage, guardrail, bollards, fencing, and button-activated flashing beacons, is not warranted at its current location.
