Shreveport, LA – A 15-year-old student was arrested earlier this week after being found in possession of a handgun on a Caddo Parish school campus, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred after an assistant principal received a tip that the student may have brought a weapon to school. The assistant principal immediately notified Deputy Rivera, the School Resource Officer assigned to the campus.
Acting swiftly, Deputy Rivera and the administrator were able to locate the student without incident and found a handgun in his possession.
The student was taken into custody on site and transported to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives’ office. His legal guardian was present as he was read his Miranda rights and interviewed by authorities.
Following the interview, the juvenile was transferred to the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center. He faces two charges: illegal possession of a firearm in a gun-free zone and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
Authorities have not released the name of the student due to his age. The investigation remains ongoing.
