Louisiana – A 24-year-old Terrytown man was struck and killed early Thursday morning while walking along the elevated eastbound lanes of US 90B in Jefferson Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers from LSP Troop B responded to the scene just before 5:00 a.m. on April 17, 2025, near Stumpf Boulevard in Gretna.

The victim, identified as Shamond Jacobs, was walking in the eastbound lanes of the upper level of US 90B while wearing dark clothing when he was hit by a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the same direction.

Jacobs sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Silverado was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was not injured.

State Police reported that routine toxicology samples were collected from both the pedestrian and the driver, and those results are pending as the investigation continues.

Authorities emphasized that pedestrians should never walk on interstate systems, elevated roadways, or in the direct lanes of traffic. They also urged individuals to wear brightly colored or reflective clothing when walking in low-light conditions to increase visibility and reduce the risk of collisions.

The Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
