Governor Landry signs Executive Order banning use of Chinese AI systems in Louisiana schools and state agencies

Louisiana – Governor Jeff Landry signed an Executive Order aimed at protecting Louisiana students, universities, and state agencies from the influence of artificial intelligence systems developed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The order prohibits the use of free AI tools created or operated by hostile foreign governments, including China, within Louisiana’s educational institutions and government entities.

According to the Executive Order, foreign-controlled AI programs such as DeepSeek serve as tools for the CCP to infiltrate American institutions and access sensitive information. The U.S. Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party previously identified DeepSeek as a platform used for covert propaganda manipulation and the transfer of Americans’ personal data to China.

“This executive order puts America and Louisiana first. We will not let the Chinese Communist Party spy on our state or steal from our people,” said Governor Jeff Landry. “As technology advances, so do the threats. This executive order ensures we are protecting our people, our data, and our national security from the CCP’s growing influence in AI.”
